Friday 7th July & Saturday 8th July

“Weaving symbolises a connection to my home, my family, my community and my heritage. It tells the story of a community in Ghana and, by weaving, I keep that story and knowledge alive. The weaving experience motivates me to try harder for the thousands of weavers making baskets in Ghana.” Godwin Yidana

Using recycled plastic and fabric, participants will be guided through the process of Bolga Basket Weaving to create their own striking, colourful, handmade baskets that make a stunning statement in any space.

"Weaving is my meditation and my Big Magic, to borrow from the wonderful Elizabeth Gilbert. It is therapeutic and allows me to express my creativity. It also helps me get perspective; I think through life challenges while I’m weaving, and I often find solutions to problems during the weaving process." Godwin Yidana

Godwin who grew up in Ghana, has overcome a life full of adversity. His passion and ‘never-give-up’ philosophy of living is the basis of this 3.5 hour hands-on workshop, where Godwin will share his special skills and inspirational story of how he accidentally discovered how to turn plastic waste into twine to make baskets, a tradition from Bolgatanga where he was born.

Godwin will also share his inspirational story of life growing up in poverty in rural Ghana - from enduring a childhood of hunger and violence to making it to university in Ghana and Australia, establishing a social enterprise, G-lish Foundation that generates income for rural families. To working as a conflict transformation practitioner and re-connecting and sharing his rich heritage through weaving.

Two sessions of Godwin's weaving workshop will be held at Newrybar Merchants and spaces are strictly limited to 10 people per session so be quick to reserve your space.

Postcard Tarot READINGS – EVERy friday 9am to 5pm

To book email Julie on or call 0423 612 117

Cost: $50 per session (lasts average 30-45 minutes)

"Postcard Tarot is collaborative in the sense that people send me postcards for the deck, often with the message including their take on what the card means. Then the person I’m reading for puts their own spin on what they see in the image or words, and how it relates to them. I’m empathetic and intuitive and guide the process, but the reading itself is collaborative too.

I have always loved postcards and all things paper – Postcard Tarot is a great match with Fate and Fortune and I am looking forward to sharing Postcard Tarot in the beautiful space that is Newrybar Merchants.

I’ve been doing Postcard Tarot readings for 30 years or so. In the age of instant messaging, people love seeing all the not-so-instant messages in the deck. Analog awesomeness!

Time and time again, I’m amazed at how the postcards organise themselves to be quite specific and relevant to the person I’m reading for. They definitely have their own energy, I guess because of all the love and intent that went into choosing and sending them to me."
