OPENING OF NEWRYBAR MINI VILLAGE - SUN 11 AUG - 10am-12pm

This Sunday 11 August from 10am-12pm our little town in the hinterland will be officially opening our new 'Newrybar Mini Village' - a mini replica village built by our friends at Castle and Cubby and brought to you by our team of very hard working locals who volunteered their time to create this educational and interactive space.

This incredible initiative consists of mini replica Newrybar homesteads and garden beds by Love To Grow. The village is a sustainable, single-loop initiative utilising water tanks for the garden and harnessing solar for the light.

There will be some very special offerings on the day including delicious kid-friendly snacks served from Harvest Newrybar and 20% off clothing and Muskhane products from Small Wonder at Newrybar Merchants.

Plus every child will receive Castle + Cubby planting seeds to take home!

MEG WALTERS ‘TABOO’ EXHIBITION OPENING - Friday AUG 2nd, 5-7pm

Join us for the exhibition of ‘Taboo’, a series of original works in oil and acrylic polymer by Northern NSW based artist Meg Walters, opening at Newrybar Merchants on Friday 2 August from 5-7pm.

Taboo is a word of Polynesian origin meaning; forbidden by social customs, and the collection of works explores the nature of how conversation is restricted in our modern age.

Perceived as paradise, the Polynesian islands remain an escape from the modern world; a safe haven from the world's problems. Slowing down enough to have honest conversations with ourselves and others is embodied in the heart of this exhibition.

Date: Friday 2nd August, 2019

Time: 5pm - 7pm

Cost: FREE

Hummingbubs music GROUP - mondays 10am

Newrybar Merchants and Hummingbird Music Therapy are excited to announce ‘HummingBubs’ sessions every Monday at 10am starting April 8th.

‘HummingBubs’ is a music group for 0-12 month olds tailored to encourage early social and communication skills, emotional and creative expression, and parent-infant bonding. It was designed by Music Therapist Belinda Tucquet following the birth of her son Townes and relocation to the Byron Bay Hinterland village of Federal in early 2019.

As a newborn intensive care Music Therapist, Belinda has enjoyed providing services to medically fragile infants and their families, with a clinical focus addressing their neurodevelopmental and psychosocial needs.

With a desire to translate her clinical background into a community focused service, ‘HummingBubs’ has found the perfect home at Newrybar Merchants, where the group will develop peer interaction, parent and baby communication, and fine motor skills through instrumental play while providing a social space to share the joy, creativity and fun of music in the family.

Belinda has a family-centred approach, working in partnership with parents to provide developmentally appropriate musical stimuli which encompasses the use of live music (guitar and voice).

Parents and their babies will experience the joy of making music together and with others in a gentle and intimate setting. Numbers are capped at 10 participants per session, $15 each and bookings are essential.

Belinda completed her Masters of Music Therapy at the University of Melbourne (2007), and established her private practice Hummingbird Music Therapy, in 2008. For the past 10 years Belinda has worked as a paediatric Music Therapist at Royal Children’s Hospital, Brisbane, Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital, Brisbane and Royal Children’s Hospital, Melbourne.

To book a session please call Belinda directly on 0413234837.

"Postcard Tarot is collaborative in the sense that people send me postcards for the deck, often with the message including their take on what the card means. Then the person I’m reading for puts their own spin on what they see in the image or words, and how it relates to them. I’m empathetic and intuitive and guide the process, but the reading itself is collaborative too.

I have always loved postcards and all things paper – Postcard Tarot is a great match with Fate and Fortune and I am looking forward to sharing Postcard Tarot in the beautiful space that is Newrybar Merchants.

I’ve been doing Postcard Tarot readings for 30 years or so. In the age of instant messaging, people love seeing all the not-so-instant messages in the deck. Analog awesomeness!

Time and time again, I’m amazed at how the postcards organise themselves to be quite specific and relevant to the person I’m reading for. They definitely have their own energy, I guess because of all the love and intent that went into choosing and sending them to me."
